Melissa’s home lab is Rochelle Newman’s
Brain Injury and Language Development
group (BILD), at the Language Development
and Perception Laboratories. She is in the
Hearing and Speech Sciences department.
Melissa obtained a B. A. in applied linguistics
from the University of Maryland Baltimore
County, and an M. Sc. in cognitive neuroscience
from the University College London. She entered
the combined M. A./Ph. D. program in speech-
language pathology in 2012 and advanced to
candidacy in 2015.
Her primary research interests focus on pediatric
brain injury as it relates to linguistic, cognitive,
and emotional individual differences and development
